Questions That We Hope Are Answered
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the MP teaser trailer that Treyarch went ahead and put together for us a few weeks back, feel free to do so here and be sure to check out the analyses here and here, as well. Now, you’ll quickly realize that the community has far more questions then we received answers for – and the teaser trailer was, of course, designed to answer a few questions and create a whole lot more. So, here is what we hope to have answered in the Black Ops MP Reveal…
Dive To Prone
During the MP teaser trailer, if you had a quick eye, you may have noticed that a character off to the side during one scene makes a leaping dive to land flat on his belly. Traditionally, in Call of Duty games, your character had to stop and crouch before laying prone and with this new mechanic, many gamers in the community are worried about an excess of ‘drop shots’ or ‘dolphin-diving’. While Josh Olin has said that this is more of a defensive maneuver, we would definitely like to see this mechanic in action to reassure us that we aren’t going to have to defend against some tricky drop-shot kills.
Killstreak / Weapon Balance
We’re not here to point fingers or stir up controversy around other games but it is an established fact that previous Call of Duty titles have had a hard time with overpowered killstreak rewards and overpowered weapons. Whether it is the Chopper Gunner killstreak reward in Modern Warfare 2 or the MP40 in World at War – the community has always been put off somewhat by a few of the developer’s decisions. This time around, we’re hoping the MP Reveal will demonstrate how Treyarch have balanced the game. It will be interesting to see: from day one, Treyarch has had one developer whose sole job was balancing the multiplayer side of the game.
Customization / Create-a-Class 2.0
We have seen a whole lot of customization options from the MP teaser trailer but not a whole lot about how, exactly, they work. We’ve seen clan tags etched into firearms, decals placed on the side of firearms, a smiley-faced red dot sight but no details have been shown as to how we go about applying those features. Will there be a Create-a-Class for weapons, as well as the traditional Create-a-Class?
Killstreak Rewards
There were many killstreak rewards included in the MP teaser, including a remote-control explosive car and an Archangel missile. Of course, there weren’t many details given on some of the killstreak rewards including how many kills it takes to get certain rewards, and whether the kills you get from rewards will count towards your next reward or not. In Modern Warfare 2, killstreak rewards went as high as a 25-kill streak. What will Black Ops’ highest killstreak reward be? Are drivable vehicles a killstreak reward? Will customization return for them or will we be limited to a strict set-up? What will all the killstreak rewards even be? There are many questions here and we anxiously hope Treyarch will do their best to display them all to us!
Vehicles / Game Modes
We heard a while back that vehicles will be returning to Black Ops, though not in a way that gamers have seen before in a Call of Duty game. This, of course, brings many potential scenarios to mind and a lot to look forward to during the Multiplayer Reveal. Josh Olin, during his time at Gamescom in Germany (see our recap here) said that there were some interesting new game modes included in Black Ops. Potential game modes could include a vehicle-based game mode, perhaps a VIP playlist or possibly a true Barebones game mode, featuring the player and their weapon, without killstreak rewards, attachments, perks, etc. Which game modes will Treyarch include for us and will all of our old favorites make the cut?
@JD_2020′s Twitter Frenzy
Josh Olin, alias @JD_2020 on Twitter, promised a lot of info concerning what we can expect from the Reveal over the next couple days. Here is a bit of what we discerned from his most recent tweets…
Twitter question, “Will you guys be showing off any of the co op on the sept. 1st? [sic]”
“No, 9/1 is strictly a Competitive Multiplayer reveal event. Co-op will be revealed later this year =).” – JD_2020
Twitter question, “When you say only press will be attending, the public still gets to see everything right?”
“By way of the reporters attending, yes. We will not be live streaming the event ourselves. Others might be tho.” – JD_2020
Now, we’ve really saved the best for last here. A Twitter user requested, “Can you write a list of what will be revealed on 1st Sept? I mean like weapons, maps, modes, not details, just what catergories [sic]
” and Olin’s response was very exciting to read…
“All of the above =). 9/1 will be a reveal of ALL #CodBlackOps MP will have to offer!” – JD_2020
The big day is rapidly approaching: be sure to check out the forum for all the latest discussion! We will be hosting a live-blog during the Multiplayer Reveal, you can check that out here. This will feature up-to-the-minute updates on everything we learn, as we learn it. The MP Reveal is set to begin at 6:00PM PST (which is 1AM GMT), and our coverage will begin either then or whenever the news starts to pour in!
Special thanks to Trainboy1094 and site visitor Kyle for their feedback on what we want to see in the MP Reveal! What do you guys want to see above everything else during the MP Reveal? Let us know in the comments!
